Through onsite individualized training of PTSD service dog, Veterans are empowered to create a life changing partnership.

Our story

Freya’s Warriors is dedicated to transforming the lives of U.S. veterans living with PTSD through the power of partnership. Our program goes beyond simply providing highly trained service dogs—we equip veterans with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to build a deep, lasting bond with their dog. Through a unique, onsite training experience, veterans actively participate in shaping their specialized PTSD service dog’s abilities, creating a relationship rooted in trust, understanding, and mutual growth.

Each dog begins with professional foundation training, including public access skills and early task work. Veterans then join us on our peaceful rural farm for an immersive three-month program, where they complete their dog’s training tailored to their individual needs. This personalized approach empowers veterans to adapt their dog’s skills as life evolves, ensuring long-term success and independence.

Our service dogs are trained to perform critical tasks such as interrupting nightmares, providing deep pressure therapy, and alerting to anxiety or panic attacks—helping veterans regain control, confidence, and quality of life. Just as important, the training process itself is profoundly therapeutic, fostering connection, purpose, and healing.

At Freya’s Warriors, support doesn’t end at graduation. We are committed to providing a lifelong network of guidance, education, and community. In a safe, quiet environment, veterans not only build life-changing partnerships with their dogs but also form meaningful connections with peers who understand their journey—creating a support system that lasts far beyond their time with us.

The name

The name Freya’s Warriors comes in part from Norse mythology and in remembrance of the dog that made all this possible.

Freya in mythology: The goddess embodies great duality while representing both love and war. It is written that Freya selected half the warriors who died in battle to join her hall (the other half going to Odin).

The dog: Freya was picked up as a stray and came home with me after a meet and greet with my lab (Odin), whom she immediately bonded with. She was still young but presented with a lot of concerning behavioral challenges. In an effort to help her I began down the path to become a dog trainer.  Freya changed my life, career, and what I understood of dogs. She taught me patience, compassion, trust, and value of continued learning. Together we learned so much about healing and growing together. It is not an exaggeration to say she is behind everything.
